Bargello designs

Bargello takes its name from a set of 17th century chairs found in Florence's Bargello Palace, upholstered in bold, zigzagging "flame stitch" patterns. Some trace its roots even further back to Hungary, where similar techniques were being stitched centuries earlier.

Wherever it started, the style caught on for a great reason: the repetitive, mathematical stitch pattern makes for fast, satisfying progress, while the bold geometry makes for a striking look. Centuries later, it's still one of the most eye-catching designs in needlepoint.
